Frequently Asked Questions
I'd like couples therapy, but my partner doesn't want to attend. Can I still come?
I feel it is helpful if both are willing to attend. However I work with many individuals who would like to to gain insight into what is happening within their relationship.
What happens during the initial two meetings?
Our initial meeting is for us to get to know one another and get an idea of whether we will be able to work together. You can ask any questions you may have. Generally it involves taking a brief history and will be more structured than a regular session..
Are our sessions confidential?
It is my policy not to disclose information about clients to third parties, except in situations where I have serious or significant concern about harm to the self or others. In this instance, I will disclose my concerns and we will discuss the option of involving other professionals.
In keeping with my BACP professional guidelines, I am in regular supervision with a senior practitioner and may share clinical material with them. My supervisor is subject to the same code of ethics and conduct as I am.
With couples, I will discuss during the sessions how we manage confidentiality between partners.
How much do the sessions cost?
Couple sessions start at £80 and individual sessions from £65 depending on location and time.
How long will we be working together?
Due to the complex nature of the work, I don't believe in a "quick fix" approach. I believe it is important to look for the root of the problem and not just treat the symptoms, otherwise we can fall into the same damaging patterns again in the future. However, some clients have limited availability or see an improvement after a shorter period of time and will choose to terminate their sessions sooner. The timing of an ending will be an ongoing discussion.
Do you offer Skype sessions?
This is something I am in the process of setting up, but will only be used in special circumstances with regular clients.
What if I need to cancel a session last minute?
My policy is to charge for missed sessions. This is to signify the commitment that you are making towards our work together. However, I understand that emergencies do arise and thus up to 4 sessions annually may be cancelled without payment, providing I receive 24 hours notice.
